Daytona Bike Week 2010' is Like an Amusement Park for Bikers

Dec 23rd, 2011 Robert Hoffman

Every year has a different flavor to it. Some years are affected by the economy, boom years like 2005, 2006, 2007 and tight years like 2009', cold snaps and heat waves. Although we're not out of the recession yet, this year's showing might give us some hope a recovery is nearing.

This year has a collective body of vendors, event promoters and industry sponsors that share the same optimism. The 2010' Daytona Bike Week may well be the best event in years and may mark the turning point in the U. S. economy.

This year's 10 day rally is jam packed with so many venues and entertainment opportunities that the calendar is bursting at the seams and there is still more to be announced. I realize some Bike Week regulars prefer a laid back approach, choosing to casually enjoy the Florida sunshine, ride the loop, and take in a swap meet if the urge arises.

There are so many events scheduled for this year's Bike Week, that the calendar is overflowing and you're going to have to make some tough decisions on what to cut from the 2010' plan.

This year's music is top notch. The vote for best year for music was 2004' when Lynard Skynard, George Thorough good as well as biker favorite David Allen Coe was playing. Although no headliner concerts have been announced, the wealth of up and coming performers and tribute bands this year is unprecedented.

The Broken Spoke Saloon has gone all out this year with some great cover bands performing the music of Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles as well as original music from Jasmine Cain, Joe Santana, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section. For a change of pace Broken Spoke will also host comedian Gallagher. And don't forget an appearance by Southern Bike Night TV and Co-host's Jim Burgos and Dene' Clayton personal friends of Broken Spoke's owner Jay Allen.

There's plenty more music down on Main Street too. Another Led Zeppelin tribute band plays the Dog House as well as an AC/DC cover that rocked Biketoberfest. Boot Hill Saloon features a Motley Crue tribute with still much more to be announced. Interested in something other than music, how about racing?

Daytona International Speedway once again hosts the Daytona 200, the original event that spawned what would become Bike Week, as well as Super cross by Honda, but DIS will have tons more. How about XDL Sport bike Freestyle Championship? This is no wheelie demonstration, this is all out competition. AMA Flat track has moved their venue to the newly constructed a quarter mile limestone track at DIS for two nights of racing. That's not the only Flat track either. The American All Star National Flat track Series takes place on the quarter mile dirt oval of Volusia Speedway Park.

Add all that on top of three custom ride in bike shows (Boardwalk Classic, Rat's Hole and a new Custom show at the Americano), Old stand bys like Tomoka Farms and Stetson University swap meets, Demo rides and Cycle World International Show and this year's rally has got more attractions than that theme park in Orlando.
